General Musculoskeletal Medicine

Evaluation should be given to: Attending on service

Available: Periods 1-3 reserved for students with a career interest in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Duration: Maximum 8 weeks, Minimum 2 weeks

Report to: Dr. Rubendall

Time to Report: 8:00 am

Place to Report: PM & R Outpatient Clinic

Typical day: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Attendance: Attendance at elective activities is mandatory.

  • Anyone who is ill or has a personal or family emergency must contact Student Affairs and the Attending on Service.
  • Students are allowed to take off up to 1 day per week to interview between November 1 and February 1.
    • Specific days missed must be approved by the Attending on Service.

Course Description: This course is a general musculoskeletal rotation with special emphasis on manual medicine/osteopathic manipulation; Worker’s Comp., and clinic-based non-spinal procedures.


Goals: Students will see a wide variety of musculoskeletal patients and develop a wide range of musculoskeletal skills. They will learn how to provide care for spinal patients, sports-related injuries and conditions requiring manual medicine. They will also obtain a general understanding of Worker’s Comp. patients.
