Reston, Fairfax, and Springfield, Virginia and treats in excess of 154,000
patients yearly combined. There is a separate Pediatric Emergency Section

treat a representative cross-section of the emergency medical problems
presenting to a large active suburban medical facility. The Emergency
Department staff will act as preceptors to the student while on duty

approach to the pediatric patients presenting with all types of injuries,
multiple trauma, surgical and medical illnesses is stressed with emphasis
on a pertinent history, exam, and diagnostic studies. The development
of the student’s proficiency in practical applications of emergency
medicine, such as suturing technique, is assured by the large patient
volume. Students will participate in direct patient evaluation, oral
presentations, development of treatment plans and written history and
physicals. They will also attend ED grand rounds and other conferences,
some of which are required. |
