Electives/Selectives - Introductory
Information
How to Receive Credit
Electives
Credit for an Elective rotation is granted when a satisfactory
(pass) evaluation is received in Student Affairs. All
Electives are pass/fail. The evaluation
must be signed by an Attending, Fellow or Chief Resident. International
and Research electives also require final reports due within one month of
completing the rotation. The score
and comments on the Evaluation
Form are for the student and the advisor to use in planning
future growth, study and educational goals. Individual
Elective/Selective rotations and grades never show on your UVA transcript
- the entire
Elective/Selective
year
is
given
a
grade
of pass at the end of the year,
when you complete the graduation requirements.
It is your responsibility
to provide an Elective
Evaluation Form to the supervisor and to
verify that completed forms
are received by Student Affairs. You should arrange
an exit interview with the supervisor to have the evaluation signed and then
deliver it to Student
Affairs within 2 weeks of the end of the rotation.
Fill in your name, Elective Title,
Number, Dates and Supervisor's Name before you give the
form to your supervisor.
- International elective
credit requires
both a satisfactory elective Elective
Evaluation Form and submission of a
Final Write-up which is
due within one month of completing the rotation, to Student Affairs.
The
report should include:
- the address of the on-site
supervisor;
- a description of your medical activities
during the elective;
- a critique of the experience in terms
of the positive and negative features; and
- Research elective
credit requires both a
satisfactory elective Elective
Evaluation Form
and
submission of a detailed Final
Report. The final
report of what was accomplished during the Research Elective
rotation (including original data) or a copy of a manuscript
for publication, based on the Elective Research should be submitted
within one month of completing the elective rotation.
Selectives
Class of 2009: It
is your responsibility to provide a Selective
Evaluation Form to the supervisor (or the supervisor can use the one
on OASIS) and to verify that
completed forms are received by Student Affairs. You
should arrange an exit interview with the supervisor to have the evaluation
signed and then deliver it to Student Affairs within 2 weeks of
the end of the Selective rotation to receive credit.
