Where do you park? Most students and family use the hospital parking garage on 11th street since it is open and free on Sunday. For the Diploma Ceremony, see map for parking options. There is a free Trolley that runs from the Womens' Center (next to Old Med School) every 30 minutes to the downtown mall where the Paramount Theater is located. Buses will be available during the day -- see bus schedule.

Tickets? All graduating students will receive 3 tickets for the Lawn Ceremony seating and 5 General Admission tickets for the Diploma Ceremony at the Paramount Theater. Students can give away tickets they will not use to other members of their class. There are areas designated for standing room at the Lawn Ceremony for guests not having a "seat" ticket. Only guests with tickets will be admitted to the Paramount Theater (all children must have a ticket...no "babies in arms.")

Cap/Gown, tickets (3-lawn; 5-diploma) pickup in Student Affairs rm 3129 Jill's office (8:00 - 4:00) - (bring checkbook for picture orders)

Wednesday, May 15th:

Cap/Gown, tickets (3-lawn; 5-diploma) pickup in Student Affairs rm 3129 (8:00 - 4:00) - (bring checkbook for picture orders)

Thursday, May 16th:

Cap/Gown, tickets (3-lawn; 5-diploma) pickup in Student Affairs rm 3129 ((8:00 - 4:00) - (bring checkbook for picture orders)

Friday, May 17th:

Cap/Gown, tickets (3-lawn; 5-diploma) pickup in Student Affairs rm 3129 (8:00 - 12:00) - (bring checkbook for picture orders)
 

Saturday, May 18th:

Military Commissioning at 1:00 pm in MEB (Med Ed Building) Auditorium on the 3rd floor

3-5 Class Celebration: "In Our Own Words: Reflections Celebrating the Class of 2013" and Class Movie at Newcomb Hall Theatre.
Family members welcome.

Graduation Reception for students and family members at the Medical Alumni Association headquarters on 1111 West Main Street (5:00 - 7:00)

 

Sunday, May 19th:

9:00 Class Picture in front of Old Med School (wear gown, but not cap)

9:30 Follow Marshals to north portico of Rotunda

Lawn Ceremony (lasts until approximately 12:15) -- see "real time" streaming video as it happens!

Break

3:00 Diploma Ceremony at Paramount Theater on downtown mall; General Admission ticket required for all guests (auditorium seating starts at 2:00; students report at 2:15 to waiting area upstairs in Paramount; faculty in regalia go to Ballroom on ground floor)

Each student as their name is called will walk on stage and stand up straight to be hooded, then turn and shake hands with the hooder; walk to where Dean DeKoskey is standing and get diploma (picture will be taken), shake hands with the Dean and then walk off stage and return to seat.

After Diploma Ceremony return Hood/Gown - boxes provided in lobby of Paramount -- you can keep your cap and tassel

Severe Weather Site: If the forecast is heavy rain or severe weather on Sunday, President Sullivan will decide by 8:00 am whether the Lawn Ceremony will be held. To see if the Lawn Ceremony is cancelled call the Information Hotline at 982-2908 or 924-SNOW or 243-SNOW. If the Lawn Ceremony is cancelled because of severe weather medical students do not go to John Paul Jones Arena. The Diploma Ceremony will still be held at the Paramount Theater (General Admission seating starts at 2:00; 2:15 students go upstairs to assemble).

Diploma and Class Pictures: People have to remain seated at the Diploma Ceremony at the Paramount so graduation pictures are taken by the State award-winning photographer Jim Carpenter, owner of Gitchell's Studio. To order your pictures download this form: (Gitchells)
