Navy or teal scrubs can be issued to students. The purpose is to protect
patients from microbes from the
community and to protect you from
exposure to microbes such as HIV or hepatitus B virus that are present
in blood or body fluids that contaminate clothing.

The policy of the University of Virginia Hospital is that scrubs are to be worn only in designated surgical and obstetrical areas. When you leave these designated areas, you should change back into regular clothing. |
How do you get your scrubs?
- First time -- go to level zero main hospital (just off west staff
elevators) to the Linen Room and have your HSC ID swiped into the system
by Don Kramer.
- You will be able to get two sets of scrubs at
the Linen Room using your HSC
ID..
What do you do with contaminated/soiled scrubs?
- Soiled scrubs will be accepted at the Linen Room between 7:00 pm and 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Be sure to bring your HSC ID to prove you are a medical student.
- Turn in both top and bottom of a set to receive another top and bottom.
Can you keep your scrubs?
- No. Scrubs are used by house staff and medical students and are property
of UVa Hospital.
They must be returned.
Can you wear scrubs outside of the Medical Center?
- No. Scrubs are not to be worn outside of the hospital. They are not to be worn home after work or coming to the hospital before work.
