Club Med -- Mission Statement
Objective: The purpose of Club Med is to foster an interest in the field of internal medicine and to allow the opportunity for medical students to meet and develop relationships with housestaff and attendings in the Department of Internal Medicine.
1. Club Med Social: The Bi-annual Club Med
Social Extravaganza is held annually in April. It provides an opportunity
for medical students to interact with the Department of Medicine's housestaff
and attending physicians in a social atmosphere, with catered food and
beverages provided. It will coincide with the Dept. of Medicine's monthly
social. 2. Summer Program: Many first and second
year medical students do not have a good grasp of what Internal Medicine
represents, so groups of physicians are organized, both internists and
specialists, who are willing to take on a student over the summer or winter
vacation, for an afternoon or a whole week. to allow students the opportunity
to see what internal medicine really is all about. 3. Lunchtime Speaker Series: Approximately
once a month, physicians are invited to speak at lunchtime in Jordan Hall
about their practices, their fields, and their views of different topics.
Refreshments are served. 4. Primary Care Day: In conjunction with
the Family Practice Club, Club Med provides a variety of activities, speakers,
and events for students to learn about various aspects of primary care. 5. Physical Diagnosis Skills Lab: The Skills
Lab offers students different views of H&Ps 6. Residency Panel: A meeting is held with
several fourth year students in late March or early April (after Match
Day) to talk about the residency process, interviewing strategies, and
other insights that interns-to-be can offer. 7. Third Year Survival Guide: Not an attempt
at summarizing all of internal medicine, but more of an "essentials" book
for 3rd year students, the Third Year Survival guide provides information
in a question-and-answer format, along with commonly asked questions on
rounds, various mnemonics, and a survival guide to the 3rd year medical
rotation. 8. Charlottesville Free Clinic: The Free
Clinic offers a fantastic opportunity for 3rd and 4th year students to
practice outpatient medicine in a controlled, supervised situation. 9. Housestaff/Attending Training List: A
list is provided to Club Med members allowing them the opportunity to
seek out particular housestaff members and physicians who attended various
programs that the student may be interested in learning about. It may
also help in developing relationships with physicians at other institutions. |
