MSPE Update

MSPE (Dean's Letters) were mailed or transmitted via ERAS November 1st. If you want to send your MSPE to additional programs not using ERAS, submit the programs on an address list form (or you can add to your existing form) with 2 sets of labels. For ERAS programs, go to your MyEras workstation.

Any changes made to your letter were uploaded and replaced any previous versions. When programs select your letter, only the current version is available.

SO, WHAT NOW? Sneak Preview of Coming Attractions

RANK ORDER LIST:

Students will enter rank order lists using the NRMP web site from January 15 to February 27, 2008. If you still haven't registered with the NRMP, please do so before the end of November to avoid a $50 late registration fee.

The NRMP has released a report entitled Impact of Length of Rank Order List on Match Results on their web site. Take a look! You can rank up to 20 programs for your $40 fee - couples can rank up to 30 programs. Longer lists have a better chance of matching according to the NRMP. Word of caution -- do not rank a program where you do not want to go!

Don't forget that you must have your AAMC Applicant Code and Password to use the NRMP web site to enter your rank order lists.

GRADUATION QUESTIONNAIRE:

As we are an AAMC affiliated school, completion of this questionnaire is a "must do"! This is the school's way of finding out what you, the students, think the strengths and weaknesses are throughout the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and your anonymous feedback can and does help shape the future. But more on that to come.

MATCH DAY / WEEK:

Thursday, March 20, 2008 is the big day. There will be a class meeting that morning followed by the Match Day Ceremony held in the Old Medical School Auditorium, which culminates at 12 noon . Attendance is required! Absences must be approved by Dean Pearson. The four days of the Match are broken down as follows:

Monday, March 17th at 12 noon EST: Applicant Status (matched/unmatched) information will be posted to the NRMP web site.

Tuesday, March 18th at 12 noon EST: Locations of unfilled positions will be posted to the NRMP web site. Unmatched applicants may begin contacting unfilled programs at 12 noon EST.

Thursday, March 20th at 12 noon EST: Match Day ceremony in Old Medical School Auditorium. Specific results (where you matched) will be posted to the NRMP web site at 1:00 p.m. EST.

The AMA has developed a residency program interview and evaluation tool. It is a great thing to help prepare you for interviews and to help you compare all of the programs you visit. Take a minute and visit their web site. It can be a helpful tool for remembering specific details about a program well after you have finished interviewing. It could be an enormous help when it comes time to submit your rank order list.

External Email Warning: If you have given residency programs a Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo (etc...) email account there may be problems with email delivery. Most users have wisely set up their accounts to filter out "junk mail" to avoid the endless amounts of spam out there. Unfortunately, most of these services filter email from residency programs as "junk mail" because interview requests are quite frequently sent to more than 10 students at a time. Make sure you don't miss an invitation to interview -- check your Junk Bin!
