Student Legal Services

The Student Legal Services Program, located in Newcomb Hall, 4th floor,
room 460, makes legal counsel available to University students. The agency
is headed
by a full-time
attorney
and staffed by law students.
Legal counseling focuses on cases arising outside the University, with
a concentration on landlord-tenant conflicts, consumer rights, student
victimization by private interests, and related legal situations arising
from a student's residence in the Charlottesville- Albemarle community.
The program is funded by the Student Council via your Student Activities
Fee. Phone: 924-7524.
The Consumer Information Service operates an action line telephone
(293-4949) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. as a community-wide
service, investigating 85 percent of the consumer-merchant disputes brought
to its attention. Its office is located in Madison House at 170 Rugby
Road.
