Patient Log PDA Software Documentation version 1.0, 7/16/04

Palm OS

If you do not have the AvantGo client already installed, you will need to install the M-Business client software on your PC.

To install the M-Business client software:

  1. Download M-Business Client Software for Palm OS .
  2. Double-click MBEntPalmEN.exe, and follow the instructions to install the software.
  3. Find the M-Business Connect™ application in the M-Business folder in your Start Menu. Start the application and click "Add...".
  4. Enter your servername (www.med-ed.virginia.edu), username (your 5 character uva computing ID), password, and port (8092).
  5. Click the "Test" button to test the connection, and verify that the test concludes successfully.
  6. Close the M-Business Connect™ application.
  7. After installation, connect your Palm device to your computer and HotSync to install the M-Business Client on your device.

To access the patient log on your PDA:

  1. HotSync your Palm device.
  2. Open the M-Business application from the home screen.
  3. Tap the server icon at the top center of the screen. Select "UVA School of Medicine Anywhere".

If you already have AvantGo installed and working, you will need to set up a new content server on your Palm device.

To set up a new server:

  1. Open the AGConnect application from the home screen
  2. Tap at the top of the screen for the pull down menu, choose ServerNew Server
  3. Enter the server address (www.med-ed.virginia.edu), port (8092), username (your 5 character uva computing ID), and password. Tap the "Ok" button.

To access the patient log on your PDA:

  1. HotSync your Palm device.
  2. Open the AvantGo Application from your home screen.
  3. Tap the server icon at the top center of the screen. Select "UVA School of Medicine Anywhere".

PocketPC

Note: Our AvantGo server has not worked well with the public AvantGo client through ActiveSync. We recommend upgrading to the M-Business client software to handle the patient log. This will not disrupt your other AvantGo services.

To install the M-Business client software:

  1. Download M-Business Client Software for Pocket PC .
  2. Double-click MBEntPPCEN.exe, and follow the instructions to install the software.
    An alert message may appear on the device asking if you want to replace existing system files. When prompted, choose "Yes to All."
  3. You will need to configure ActiveSync (3.0 for Windows CE devices, 3.1 for Pocket PCs) to sync iAnywhere.
    First, disconnect your device, then reconnect it. Next, open ActiveSync and select the Options button in the upper right corner of ActiveSync's tool bar. When you see the menu make sure the M-Business Connect™ box is checked, then click the OK button.
  4. Find the M-Business Connect™ application in the iAnywhere folder in your Start Menu. Start the application and click "Add...".
  5. Enter your servername (www.med-ed.virginia.edu), username (your 5 character uva computing ID), password, and port (8092).
  6. Click the "Test" button to test the connection, and verify that the test concludes successfully.
  7. Close the M-Business Connect™ application.
  8. After installation, connect your Pocket PC device to your computer and synchronize to install the iAnywhere Client on your device.

To access the patient log on your PDA:

  1. ActiveSync your PocketPC.
  2. From the Start Menu Programs, then open the M-Business Client application.
  3. If you have more than one AvantGo service, tap the menu to the right of the home button on the bottom of the screen and select "UVA School of Medicine Anywhere".
