IV Contrast (cont.)

Typical injection rates, total dose and delay intervals for CT are as follows:

Abdomen/pelvis (portal venous phase)- 2-3 cc/sec, 100 cc Iohexol 350, 70 sec delay

Portal venous phase images are typically done to evaluate the trauma patient. Delayed images obtained approximately 5-10 minutes following contrast injection can be used to confirm active extravasation or to visualize the renal collection systems, ureters and bladder which by this time will be opacified with excreted contrast.
