Translocations

Reciprocal exchange of chromosomal fragments between two or more chromosomes.

Symmetric translocation may be compatible with a normal phenotype, though likely to have reproductive failures.

Offspring may receive only one of the rearranged chromosomes thus becoming genomically incomplete with regard to that chromosome.  The phenotypic manifestations of receiving such an imbalanced translocation include miscarriage or aberrant physical and/or mental development.
