TEACHING AT THE BEDSIDE
Tip 2: Draw a road map
What is the main point of going to the bedside with this patient? Is it to:
- Take a history?
- Conduct a focused physical exam?
- Deliver bad news?
- Improve efficiency?
Who is going to be doing what? Decide this in advance, if possible, and be explicit about it with your learner:
- Will you demonstrate?
- Will you observe and then provide feedback?
Remain flexible - the agenda often changes at the bedside.
