Tip 9: De-brief but do it briefly

It is important to take a moment to process the experience at the bedside. This helps to reinforce concepts and future educational needs. This can be done quickly, but it is helpful to ask a couple of questions:

  • What went well? What did not go well?
  • How does the learner feel about what (s)he was supposed to learn? Was it perceived as useful? Relevant?
  • If needed, does the learner know what to work on for next time?
  • Did you achieve what you had hoped?
