Residents As Teachers - Providing Feedback - Common Barriers to Good Feedback continued

Common Barriers to Good Feedback

“Providing feedback makes me uncomfortable so I avoid doing it.”

Providing feedback is a skill that can be learned through practice and skill development. You can also solicit feedback from students about how YOU can improve as an instructor. We all have a tendency to avoid uncomfortable situations, but feedback is critical to teaching, and it is an important skill to develop. Once you can do this well, your teaching will improve and students will reap far greater benefits from their experiences with you.

Take a moment to consider which of the preceding barriers resonated with you.

Are there any additional barriers that affect you that were not mentioned? Take a moment to identify them and write them down - once you have identified your personal barriers, you are more likely to be able to affect them in a positive manner.
