A pager is required and will be supplied by the Medical Services.

Typical day: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm

Attendance: A student may not take time off during an ACE.

Attendance at elective activities is mandatory.

  • Anyone who is ill or has a personal or family emergency must contact Student Affairs and the Attending on Service.
  • Students are allowed to take off up to 1 day per week to interview between November 1 and February 1.
    • Specific days missed must be approved by the Attending on Service.

Course Description: The student will:

  • Participate in the CCU rounds with attending cardiologist;
  • Participate in the MICU rounds with attending pulmonologist;
  • Be primarily responsible for admitting taking care of patients in need of intensive therapy and will act as a medical intern, under the supervision of medical residents and attending pulmonologist/cardiologists.
  • Will participate in bedside invasive procedures (Swan-Ganz, right heart catheterization, arterial line, etc.), under the supervision of the attending cardiologist, attending pulmonologist, and will manage patients on ventilator.

There will be night call, weekend call and weekend rounds.
