Autopsy Service

Elective Number: 2301

Rotation Supervisor: Dr. Robin LeGallo (office, Hospital Expansion, Room 3064)

Duration: 4 weeks

Available: all rotations

Report to: Dr. LeGallo

Place to Report: Hospital Expansion room 3064

Time to Report: 9:00 am

Typical day: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

A pager is required for this rotation but is not supplied by the department

Attendance: Attendance at elective activities is mandatory.

  • Anyone who is ill or has a personal or family emergency must contact Student Affairs and the Attending on Service.
  • Students are allowed to take off up to 1 day per week to interview between November 1 and February 1.
    • Specific days missed must be approved by the Attending on Service.

Course Description: Working closely with the Pathology residents, students will assist in the performance of autopsies. In addition, students will participate in the gross and microscopic review of the cases, and evaluate how these findings correlate with the clinical features of each case. From this rotation, the student should obtain an understanding of the role of the medical autopsy in patient care and physician education.
