Attendance: Attendance at elective activities is mandatory.

  • Anyone who is ill or has a personal or family emergency must contact Student Affairs and the Attending on Service.
  • Students are allowed to take off up to 1 day per week to interview between November 1 and February 1.
    • Specific days missed must be approved by the Attending on Service.

Course Description: This rotation will introduce the student to the various immunology tests available for the diagnosis of disease.

Learning Objectives:

1. The student will learn the indications and interpretation of various tests and testing limitations from the clinical laboratory standpoint. Didactic lectures and opportunities for bench observation and practice will be provided.

2. Areas to be covered include serum and urine protein chemistry, serology (hepatitis, HIV, CMV, EBV, etc.) flow cytometry and autoimmune disease testing.

3. Students will do related readings and presentations; attend journal club and hematology rounds.
