Place to Report: 10:00 rounds start in Inpatient Renal Dialysis Unit

Typical Day: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Number of students per rotation: 2

Course Description: The student will spend 1 week learning acute (in-hospital) nephrology and 1 week in ambulatory (out-patient) nephrology. There is no call duty. The day starts at 8 am (7:30 on Tuesdays) and typically ends no later than 5:00 pm.

Learning objectives:

  • acute renal failure (acute kidney injury)
  • chronic kidney disease
  • hematuria
  • proteinuria
  • hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
  • renal transplantation
  • metabolic disorder/fluid and electrolyte disorders

The contacts for the consult service are the individual attendings and the student will find out the attending of the week during orientation. The student will also meet with Dr. Sanoff or Dr. Balogun at the end of the rotation for an exit interview.
